About Mike Dwyer
Mike’s background and education is in Wildlife Biology. His early passion for wildlife and bird observation led him to obtain his Masters of Science degree in Wildlife Biology and Ornithology and an early career as a wildlife biologist in Kansas and Nebraska games and parks. He then began expressing this passion in carving waterfowl and songbirds out of basswood. In 1989 he learned the “Lost Wax Method” of bronzecasting and started sculpting in clay and wax and casting in the local foundries in Loveland. He began attending local fine art shows part time in Colorado and Arizona. In 2005 on a suggestion, he sculpted a woodpecker door knocker and this new dimension of sculpting door knockers has expanded to over 65 custom and commissioned designs. By utilizing this experience and his field work in ornithology and wildlife he has grown his passion into a career and has worked full time as a sculptor since 2014.
Mike resides at home in Loveland Colorado where his studio is located and continues on the fine art show circuit where he exhibits his bronze collection around the country. In addition to offering his existing door knockers, which are all available to cast, Mike works directly with his clients to discuss ideas of sculpting new and unique designs for them. Each door knocker is signed and dated and makes a lasting keepsake of fine art to enjoy for years to come. When not sculpting, Mike loves to bird watch, golf, hunt and fish with his wife and 3 sons and daughter.
